Purity

Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters not adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders…. will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9b-10

Intimate relationships have become a huge part of our culture. It is everywhere. It is part of TV, movies, and music. In our culture, it has become almost like a god. It is difficult in our culture to remain pure. Our culture does not agree with the Bible though, as the verse mentioned above says. But God has given us laws and rules to help us, not harm us.

To be sexually immoral means that the sexual relationship happens outside of the marriage. Our society does not value waiting until marriage. But it is what God wants. He does not want us living with our boyfriend and girlfriend before marriage for a test run. If we do not wait until marriage, than we are cheating on our future spouse. It also becomes less special if it happens with several people.

Adultery happens when a person is married but also having a relationship with someone else. This can also happen if a person looks at someone with lust or covets another partner. It can also be looking at inappropriate websites and pictures. Adultery can cause problems for a relationship.

Finally, homosexuality is a sin. This is a huge part of our culture as more and more states legalize same sex marriage. It is wrong in God’s eyes though.

Love can be dangerous and complicated. Nothing can truly protect the heart. But when we break the laws of God, it breaks His heart. Guard your heart, and live according to the laws set by God. God has given us hope.

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
